Visiting Syrian Foreign Minister Farouq al-Shara and Iran's President Mohammad Khatami discussed the latest regional developments, mainly the Iraqi situation on Tuesday night.
According to IRNA, Khatami alluded to the issues in Middle East and threats to the regional states and highlighted the need for awareness to be vigilant in safeguarding national interests. He further referred to the Iraqi situation and the problems gripping the war-torn country, "caused to the presence of the foreign forces in its territory."
