The Syrian National Coalition has elected a new leader, AFP reports. The main exiled opposition group elected Hadi al-Bahra as its new president Wednesday.
“Hadi al-Bahra was elected president of the coaltion with 62 votes,” the Syrian National Coaltion’s Facebook page announced.
Bahra is a Damascus born businessman who managed several hospitals and lived most of his adult life in Saudi Arabia, according to AFP. He led the opposition delegation at the Geneva II talks earlier this year.
He is tasked with reinvigorating the campaign to unseat Syrian President Bashar Assad amid increased instability in Syria and Iraq and the rise of militant jihadist group ISIL.
