Syrian regime forces have retaken a town seized by Daesh with the support of heavy Russian airstrikes,  according to reports issued by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights on Thursday.

The town of Khanaser is located some 50 km (30 miles) to the southeast of Aleppo city. Khanaser was captured by Daesh two days ago, the Observatory reported. Syrian state media said the army had "restored security and stability" to Khanaser in a separate report.

The road did not clarify if the road to Aleppo, used by the army until it was blocked as a result of the attack, was reopened. The regime has been forced to use the Khanaser road to reach Aleppo since militants took control of the main highway to the city further west.
