Three people, including a soldier, have been killed in attacks blamed on Islamic extremists in northern Algeria, newspapers reported Wednesday.
Two guards were killed and four were wounded in an ambush near Bouira, 120 kilometers (75 miles) east of Algiers, on Monday, reports said.
A soldier was killed and two were wounded in a bomb blast near Boumerdes, just outside Algiers to the east, also Monday, the papers said.
In another incident, three soldiers taking part in a raid on Islamic extremists in a forest near Kabylie province's capital Tizi Ouzou in the northeast were wounded when a homemade bomb went off.
Violence in Algeria's civil war has intensified since early July, claiming more than 100 lives, according to a tally compiled from press reports and government statements.
The war was sparked in 1992 when the military stepped in to prevent the now outlawed Islamic Salvation Front (FIS) from taking power in a sweeping election victory.
