Tinko’s Dagger series to make Middle East debut at Capital D Studio

Global style photographer unveils work influenced by Gulf and Levant travels

Global style photographer Tinko Czetwertynski will debut his Middle East-inspired Dagger series in Dubai at Capital D Studio in Al Quoz on Wednesday, 6 May.

Recently nominated for the coveted Prix Pictet photography prize, Tinko’s work reflects his love for the Middle East, developed while living in Beirut and also creating portraits for clients in the Gulf region.  The Dagger series by Tinko is a visual metaphor for the photographer’s regional travels, with an iconic emblem of the Middle East – the curved dagger – juxtaposed in different scenarios to provide a varied focal point and context.

“The dagger in each image of the series represents a piece of the Middle East that has sentimental meaning to me as a photographer.  The inspiration behind the Dagger series of images is very diverse, from the comic book mysticism of Indiana Jones to the glamour of perfume advertising, to powerful pictures of queens,” said Tinko.

Tinko’s concept for the Dagger series began when the photographer found a beautiful object among more pedestrian souvenirs in a souk in Taroudannt, Morocco. Shot in 2008 – 2009 at locations in Morocco, London, Paris, and the Alps, the dagger pictured in the series travels through space and time, changes owners, and empowers the women pictured in different ways.
“Tinko’s work is both international and reminiscent of the Middle East, combining elements of history, symbolism, fashion, and nature.  We anticipate that the aesthetic of the Dagger images will resonate with a number of different collectors and photography enthusiasts in the region,” said Ayaad Damouni, General Manager, Capital D Studio.
Tinko’s Dagger series will be exhibited at Capital D from 6 May until 10 May and then online at www.capitalDgallery.com.   In addition to showcasing Dagger in Dubai, Tinko’s previous work has been shown in solo exhibitions in Madrid and Paris, as well as group exhibitions in Rio de Janeiro and Beirut.
