September, 2010-Tkiyet Um Ali's unprecedented Ramadan campaigns will come to an end with a first-of-its-kind Zakat program under the title of "Zakat in a Phone Call." Callers will have the opportunity to perform the Zakat of el Fitr by simply making a phone call to -090099111-, upon which an amount of 1.5 JD, the actual amount of the Zakat, will be deducted from the balance or phone bill of the caller. Collected Zakats will be invested in the purchase of food aid that will be delivered to poor families before the early Eid prayer.

"Zakat in a Phone Call" accords with a legal Fatwa declared by Professor Abdul Majeed Salhin, former dean of the Shari'a Faculty at the University of Jordan. The Fatwa states that the various charity projects launched by Tkiyet Um Ali are a suitable and legitimate source of alms giving and religious Zakat, whether for Eid el Fitr, penance Zakat, or others.

Zakat el Fitr is mandatory for all Muslims who are financially capable of performing the Zakat for themselves and for those who are under their care. Its religious purpose is to purify a fasting person from any wrongdoings they may have committed during the month, and certainly to extend a helping hand to those who need it.

Remarking on the conclusion of Ramadan campaigns 2010, Director-General of Tkiyet Um Ali Mahmoud Saif Al Sharif said: "The goal of this campaign is to provide the Jordanian public with a pioneering program to perform a religious duty in an effortless and efficient fashion, thereby helping create social and economic solidarity in our beloved country." He further added: "A simple phone call from a landline, an Orange or Umniah mobile line, performs a Zakat for a single person, the cost of which equals the amount of an actual El Fitr Zakat."

Tkiyet Um Ali invests money collected from Zakat in the purchase of food packages that are delivered to poor families, according to Shari'a laws and the urgency of the family's circumstances.

The last date last date to receive calls for Zakat el Fitr is 12:00 am on the last day of Ramadan.
