On Sunday September 19th powerful Sheik Ulwani was assassinated by an Improvised Explosive device attached to his vechile in Western Baghdad. Tribal chief Mhanna called on the Prime Minister for an immediate investigation and "to offer the results to the mass media without any procrastination or delay like what used to happen in past investigations".

Although the attack on Sheik Ulwani happened on Sunday, and no official investigation has been announced, Tribal Chief Mhanna already has a few suspects. Tribal Chief Mhanna blames not one but all of "Iran, the United States, and Zionism, for standing behind the assignation of the tribal chief, national symbols, clerics, and scholars".

Sheik Ulwani was portrayed by supporters as "a national symbol".
