Tunisian geologists and scientists have discovered a form of iridium that is two cm fix on the Hammam Mellègue geological site, situated in the Kef region, 200 km to the north west of the capital of Tunis, according to the newspaper Le <i>Nouvel Observateur</i>. This discovery is particularly important because scientists believe that it confirms the fact that planet earth encountered an asteroid more than 80 million years ago.
A number of other important discoveries have been made on the site in recent years.
