Tunisia's interior minister Lotfi Ben Jeddou reported Wednesday that the government dismantled a plot by Salafi Muslims to "slice up" the nation into three Islamic emirates, according to the Associated Press. The minister further stated that the government has made 300 arrests related to terrorism cases since he assumed office six months ago.

The minister's comments arrived Wednesday with the UGTT labor party announcement of nationwide protests scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday around the capital. Many citizens have accused the current Islamist-led government of failure in terms of cracking down on jihadists and addressing the social needs of the public.
