Six militants considered dangerous were arrested in Kasserine by the unit of investigation into terrorist crimes of EL Aouina National Guard, in collaboration with the counterterrorism services in Kasserine and Kebili
According to a statement from the Interior Ministry, the arrested individuals were providing transport to Sidi Bouzid for militants holed up in Kasserine heights.
The six allegedly provided other militants with funds and necessary information on the whereabouts of the security and military patrols in the region. The vehicles used for their transport were seized.
This operation is in the continuity of a security operation conducted last May 9 in Sidi Bouzid, the Ministry specified.
Tunisian forces have been fighting a Daesh spillover from Libya since March 2016, when Daesh militants launched an attack on the Tunisian town of Ben Guerdane. Despite erecting a fence at the Tunisian-Libyan border and increasing security patrols, Tunisia continues to face militant activity.
