The Turkish government and The Boeing Company have agreed on a $1.1 billion contract for four surveillance aircraft.
The sophisticated Airborne Warning and Control System radar-tracking planes are a major project of Turkey's multibillion dollar modernization program and will help the NATO-member overcome a gap in its radar surveillance, AP reported.
After starting negotiations last year, it was reported last month that Ankara and Boeing had reached an agreement on the planes, which are based on Boeing's 737-700 aircraft.
Now, the United States State Department and Congress must approve the contract, which could take several months. (albawaba.com)
