Authorities in Turkey have imposed a 90-day ban on a broadcaster in Batman, southern Anatolia, for playing a Kurdish song on the air, the Anadolu news agency reported Saturday.
According to the Deutche Presser Agenteur (dpa), the Turkish broadcasting regulators also suspended the Teleon television station for a week after it screened an erotic film after midnight.
The Turkish government has always been criticized for suppressing freedom of expression. Human right activists have called on Ankara to remove the legal and other obstacles that hinder the free expression of the people's ethnic, cultural and language rights.
