Cairo airport authorities have managed to block the largest smuggling attempt so far this year, in which two unidentified Arab diplomats tried to enter the country with more than two tons of clothes, accessories and cameras.

Press reports said that the value of the merchandise confiscated was estimated at around five million Egyptian pounds, or nearly $1.2 million.

The authorities said that the two “abused their privilege of exemption from inspection at the borders to smuggle the goods into the country to benefit from the difference in price and make a fat profit - which would harm the national economy and Egyptian industry.”

The goods were shipped from Frankfort on board an EgyptAir flight, said the reports - Albawaba.com
