Two police officers were found shot dead on Wednesday in Sanliurfa, the southern province hit by a suspected suicide bomber two days earlier, an official said.

The men were found dead at the home they shared in Ceylanpinar, a town on the Syrian border that lies 120 kilometers (75 miles) east of Suruc, where Monday’s bomb blast killed 32.

Provincial Governor Izzettin Kucuk said the two riot police officers had both been shot in the head.

Police have launched an investigation but were unable to say if the killings were linked to extremism.

Ceylanpinar lies across the border from Sari Kani, a town controlled by the People’s Protection Units (YPG), a Syrian Kurd militia.
