UAE delegation led by HE Obaid Humaid Al Tayer to attend
UN Conference on Economic Crisis & Impact on Development
• Participation marks UAE’s contribution to global initiatives targeted at countering negative repercussions resulting from the financial crisis
A high-level UAE delegation headed by HE Obaid Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of State for Financial Affairs, will attend the United Nations Conference on ‘World Financial and Economic Crisis and its Impact on Development,’ slated to be held between June 24 and June 26 in New York.
The participation in the UN conference marks UAE’s contribution to global initiatives targeted at countering negative repercussions resulting from the financial crisis. The move is in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.
Organized by the General Assembly of the United Nations, the conference will assess the economic downturn and identify urgent and long-term measures to ease the impact of the crisis. It will also initiate a dialogue on the shift in the international finance structure.
In his initial comment, HE Obaid Humaid Al Tayer, said, “The forum offers nations a valuable opportunity to adhere to the fundamental principles of the United Nations. It also emphasizes the role of the global community as the largest international forum dealing with most challenging financial crisis and seeking effective solutions.”
The UN conference follows close on the heels of the International Conference on Financing for Development, held in Doha last December. Participants at the New York meet will include world leaders and representatives of the United Nations, World Bank, International Monetary Fund as well as organizations from the civil society and public sector. The conference will conclude with an outcome document and report.
