Job-hunting UAE citizens will soon get a boost from a web portal designed to help them find employment quickly and easily.
The portal is being designed by the National Human Resource Development and Employment Authority of Emirates, Tanmia, which offers access to information about jobs available across the country.
The system, which is expected to be ready in the first quarter of 2002, will provide employers with a means to express their staffing needs by posting jobs online, Yousef Abdulghani, director general of Tanmia, has been quoted as saying by the Khaleej Times.
Tanmia has reported that a total of 2,002 national job seekers were registered at its Dubai office as of the end of September 2001, said the Dubai-based paper.
Tanmia also said that Abu Dhabi job seekers were significantly under-represented, making up only 2.6 percent of that figure.
According to the tally, 656 of the UAE national job seekers registered with Tanmia are high school graduates, while 898 are college graduates with a two-year diploma or above. Female UAE national job-seekers outnumber their male counterparts by up to four to one, with a total of 1,563 female job-seekers compared to only 439 male job seekers. There are 567 female bachelors degree holders registered with Tanmia as compared to 73 male bachelors degree holders.
The report on Tanmia’s future vision recognizes the wide gap that exists between the requirements of the private sector and national job-seekers' qualifications, a space which requires a strong effort to bridge.
Tanmia's training program, which was initiated in 2001 on a trial basis, will be further activated in 2002. The program depends on three main factors: the availability of suitable job opportunities, adequate financial resources and training institutions capable of meeting the requirements of such programs – Albawaba.com
