In the UAE, according to research, Breast Cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer among women. Increasing emphasis is being placed on the significant role support groups play to patients and their families.

‘Coffee Morning’ at IDdesign and Better Life is a monthly community event where ladies from various groups and associations are invited to discuss the latest topics that are important to people in the UAE.

“We believe in the importance of strong community support and recognize the significance that health conscious lifestyles play in maintaining a healthy community atmosphere,” said Ajai Dayal, General Manager for Retail and Marketing, Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group LLC (ESAG). .

The recent coffee morning took up the issue of breast cancer awareness at the Al Wahda Mall branch, Abu Dhabi. The social support event saw an increasing number of Arab and European expat women who were members from the Abu Dhabi Ladies attending.

“Meeting with healthcare specialists at such an informal setting offered us an excellent chance to understand in-depth the seriousness of a disease that is widespread among many women worldwide and in the UAE,” said Kay Bunney, Chairman, Abu Dhabi Ladies.

Latest data estimates 25 million around the world will be diagnosed with breast cancer of the next 25 years. Further data suggests that without a cure 10 million women will die from breast cancer over the next 25 years.

Dr. Ghuwaya Al Neyadi, Program Manager (Eastern Region) and Family & Community Medicine Specialist from the Health Authority - Abu Dhabi (HAAD) addressed key breast cancer issues such as the myths about the illness, general facts and figures, as well as the importance of self examination and mammograms.

“The event offered us an opportunity to further educate women in the UAE on the importance of maintaining healthy lifestyles and offering community support to women suffering from illness,” said Dr. Ghuwaya Al Neyadi. “We look forward to more events like this to spread the awareness on healthcare precautions.”

IDdesign and Better Life, work closely with several women’s community groups, women’s associations, and healthcare experts to present national and expat women with increasing opportunities to discuss healthcare issues and concerns.
