ALBAWABA- Ukraine announced on Tuesday that it conducted its largest strike against Russia since the war began three years ago. The overnight operation targeted industrial and military sites deep within Russian territory, according to Ukraine's General Staff.
The strikes reached distances of 200 to 1,100 kilometers, marking a significant escalation in the conflict. Moscow confirmed the attack, stating that Ukraine used Western-made missiles in the assault.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that six U.S.-made ATACMS missiles and six British-made Storm Shadow cruise missiles were fired toward the Bryansk region. Additionally, two Storm Shadow missiles targeted areas over the Black Sea.
The attacks caused significant disruption, including damage to factories and logistical challenges. In Engels, home to a key Russian airbase for nuclear bombers, an industrial facility was damaged by a drone.
In response, schools in Saratov and Engels shifted to remote learning, and flight restrictions were imposed in Kazan, Saratov, Penza, Ulyanovsk, and Nizhnekamsk.
Meanwhile, Russian officials claimed to have intercepted more than 200 Ukrainian drones and five ATACMS ballistic missiles during the strikes. Bryansk's governor confirmed a major missile attack but withheld details about the types of missiles used.
On the battlefield, Russian forces reportedly captured the villages of Neskuchne and Terny in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine.
