The U.N. chief said he has expressed "strong protest and outrage" to Israel over the shelling of a United Nations compound in Gaza City. Ban Ki-moon is demanding an investigation into Thursday's shelling. According to him, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak has told him it was a "grave mistake."
According to the AP, Israeli shells damaged the international organization's headquarters in Gaza City, witnesses and U.N. officials said. U.N. spokesman Chris Gunness conveyed at least three people were injured.
One of the buildings, containing "hundreds of tonnes" of humanitarian aid, was on fire, while other parts of the compound sustained shrapnel damage, another UNRWA official told AFP.
