The United Nations secretary general's personal envoy for the Sahara, James Baker, is expected to tour the Maghreb region in January to find a breakthrough to the Sahara issue, UN spokesperson announced Monday, according to MAP News Agency.
No indication was provided as to the time framework of the trip, which will take Baker to Morocco, Algeria and Mauritania.
The Security Council will examine the Sahara issue, as the mandate of MINURSO (French acronym for UN mission for the referendum in the Sahara), will expire on January 31st, the news agency concluded. (Albawaba.com)
