UNESCO, the United Nations culture agency, has condemned Daesh's destruction of an ancient Roman temple in the Syrian city of Palmyra, Reuters reports.
On Sunday Daesh blew up an ancient temple in the UNESCO-listed city of Palmyra.
Maamoun Abdulkarim, Syria's antiquities chief, said Daesh detonated a large quantity of explosives in the Temple of Baal Shamin.
"Such acts are war crimes and their perpetrators must be accountable for their actions," UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova said in a statement.
Daesh took over Palmyra in May, concerning scholars over the endangerment of its ancient structures. Daesh issued a statement early saying the structures would remain but that their militants would destroy statues they consider "idolatry."
Earlier this week the extremist group beheaded an antiquities scholar and hung his body on Palmyra's ancient columns.
