U.S. Ambassador expects Sharon government to fall

In closed door meeting with Israeli Foreign Ministry officials, U.S. Ambassador to Israel Dan Kurtzer predicted “The current government won’t make it to the next elections (scheduled for 2006)." "If the government does fall it will have repercussions on the future of the peace process. Terror attacks will surely resume, as terror organizations try to influence the election results."

According to ynet, Kurtzer made the remarks during a closed-door meeting with foreign ministry officials last week. The American ambassador also rejected Ariel Sharon’s claim of an “understanding” with U.S. President George W. Bush that large settlement blocs in the West Bank will remain under Israeli control in any final status agreement with the Palestinians.
