US Middle East envoy George Mitchell met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem Tuesday to discuss settlements and peace between Israel and its Arab neighbors. Following their meeting, Mitchell told reporters that a “comprehensive peace in the Middle East would include peace between Israel and the Palestinians, as well as peace between Israel and Lebanon, and Syria and Israel.”
The peace plan would include “full normalization between Israel and all of its neighbors in the region,” he added.
Netanyahu’s office said the meeting was positive. “We're making progress towards achieving an understanding that would enable us to continue and achieve a peace deal between Israel and it's Palestinian neighbors,” Netanyahu said.
In the meeting Netanyahu reportedly told Mitchell that Israel was doing all it could to achieve peace with the Palestinians. Israeli officials said more negotiation rounds would precede any settlement agreement.
