American soldiers killed nine people, including a family, after their patrol was attacked on Sunday, Iraqi police said, according to Reuters. Police stated three of the victims were a 13-year-old boy and his parents who were shot dead when American troops entered their house in the Sunni town of Duluiya, about 90 km north of Baghdad.

Elsewhere, a mortar bomb went off in the Shiite city of Karbala on the eve of a major religious ceremony. There were no casualties, police said, according to AFP.

Meanwhile, a major US-Iraqi operation near Samarra, north of Baghdad, continued for its third day on Sunday with the arrest of 60 suspects and the discovery of total of 11 weapons caches. On Sunday, the only resistance was a roadside bomb that lightly damaged one vehicle.

In Baghdad, four corpses, blindfolded and shot through the head, were located in the southeast neighborhood of Rustumiya.
