U.S. tanks drove into the southern outskirts of Baghdad on Saturday, US military sources said. About six to eight Abrams battle tanks on a reconnaissance mission went into the southern outskirts of the city, about 11 to 13 kilometers from the center of the capital, they told Reuters.
Meanwhile, two U.S. Marine pilots were killed when their AH-1W Super Cobra attack helicopter crashed in central Iraq early on Saturday morning, Central Command said.
"Preliminary indications are that the crash was not a result of hostile fire. The cause of the crash is under investigation," the statement said.
