Western Digital (WD), a leading hard disk drive manufacturer, has announced that it will showcase the complete range of WD products at the Al-Ahram Computer and Information Technology Exhibition (ACITEX) 2006, which will open tomorrow (Wednesday, 25th January, 2006) at the Cairo International Convention and Exhibition Centre in Egypt.

At the exhibition, WD will prominently display a host of leading-edge products including the WD Passport, WD NetCenter, and enterprise drives such as WD Raptor and WD Caviar RE. Western Digital will be participating at ACITEX - in its 14th edition this year - alongside selected WD partners in Egypt.

WD’s participation at ACITEX comes at a time when the company is focusing extensively on the fast-growing Egyptian market, with a vision that seeks to enhance its presence beyond Cairo to include other cities such as Alexandria, Luxor, and Aswan. WD already has a local representative in Egypt.

Klaas deVos, Vice President, EMEA, WD, said, “WD’s participation at ACITEX 2006 is part of our strategy to more efficiently target the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region, particularly the burgeoning Egyptian market. The full range of WD hard drives will be on display at ACITEX, with the spotlight being on the state-of-the-art WD Passport. Senior WD officials will be on hand to assist trade visitors, and will provide hands-on demonstrations on the different products.”

“In addition to showcasing our range of products, the exhibition provides us with an opportunity to enhance WD brand and create wider awareness about the uniformly high standards WD follows in the manufacturing process of hard drives, regardless of the physical location of the facility. Stringent quality standards are adhered to in all manufacturing units, and the quality of drives manufactured in Thailand is the same as those manufactured in Malaysia,” deVos added.

WD will also be leveraging the exhibition platform to create better awareness about its warranty program. All WD enterprise hard drives come with a five-year warranty while WD desktop and notebook drives have a warranty of three years. WD regularly organizes seminars for resellers in the MENA region to create a closer understanding about WD products and the warranty program.

The highlight of WD’s participation at ACITEX 2006 will be the state-of-the-art WD Passport Portable USB 2.0 drive that allows users to add portable storage for their business files, music, videos and games. The high-performance, 5400 RPM drive is simple to use, enables easy sharing of files between computers and locks up the drive for extra security.

WD will also showcase the WD Essential NetCenter, a network hard drive for small offices and home users. The NetCenter drive make it easy to share and save digital pictures, videos and music files across small office and home networks using a wired or wireless router. Users simply need to plug in the NetCenter, run the installation wizard and use WD’s EasyLink utility to set it up as a local drive on any PC or Macintosh computer on the network.

Other products that will be showcased at the four-day exhibition include the re-designed, next-generation WD Extreme Lighted Combo drive with 320 GB capacity, and the enterprise-class WD Caviar RE hard drive that provide a cost-effective solution for dependable, high-capacity enterprise storage.

At ACITEX 2006, WD will also present the WD Scorpio 2.5-inch hard drive, which was launched recently in the Middle East. The WD Scorpio drives offer high performance and low power consumption, making them ideal for notebooks, portable external storage, digital audio, GPS (Global Positioning Systems), and tablet PCs.
