Winners of Preliminary Rounds of Tanmia-Damas Career Quiz 2008 in HCT and Zayed University Decided
Al Ain Colleges of Technology to represent HCT while Zayed University Dubai edges past Abu Dhabi team
The Center for Career Guidance and Planning (CCGP) of the National Human Resource Development and Employment Authority (Tanmia) has announced that Al Ain Colleges of Technology’s team - consisting of two students from Al Ain Men’s College and two students from Al Ain Women’s College - has won the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) preliminary rounds in the Tanmia-Damas Career Quiz.
Al Ain Colleges of Technology beat Dubai Men’s College, Dubai Women’s College, Ras Al Khaimah Women’s College, Abu Dhabi Men’s College, Abu Dhabi Women’s College, Zayed Men’s College and Zayed Women’s College, to win the nomination from HCT to participate in the finals of the quiz that will be held during the 8th Careers UAE Exhibition at the World Trade Center on April 16, 2008.
On the other hand, Zayed University Dubai secured the second nomination after beating Zayed University Abu Dhabi in the preliminary round hosted by the University. The Dubai team won with the slimmest margin of victory, underlining the high level of knowledge about career related topics among participating teams.
Over 100 students from the three participating universities – HCT (10 Colleges), Zayed University (Dubai and Abu Dhabi) and Emirates University – are taking part in the quiz, with the top four of each College or university scheduled to meet in the finals that will be held during the 8th Careers UAE Exhibition at the World Trade Center on April 16, 2008. The overall winner will receive a trophy and gifts from perennial event sponsor Damas.
“We had an overwhelming response in the first preliminary round of the quiz conducted at Dubai Women’s College, Abu Dhabi Women’s College, and Zayed University in Abu Dhabi, and it is heartening to see that the level of competition has been very high. The underlining objective of this quiz is to familiarise UAE National students about the trends and developments in the country’s dynamic job market through an entertaining format. Our efforts have been supported by many of our partners, and we would like to thank Damas, DWTC and the various schools for making this event such a success, year after year.” said Saif Ibrahim Al Noaimi, Director of CCGP.
The inter-school competition, sponsored by the Dubai-based jewellery group Damas and supported by Zayed University, Emirates University, Higher Colleges of Technology and the Dubai World Trade Center, aims to raise student awareness of career opportunities, promote emiratisation, and highlight the status of today’s job market.
