In preparation for the launch of a major campaign to spread much-needed awareness on Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS-C), various women’s organizations joined together to host a series of free educational lectures in the UAE.
The event will be held at various locations across UAE from 25 to 29 January 2006. Highlights will include educational lectures by notable physicians from across the Emirates.
The lectures will cover important topics on IBS-C including its significant impact on the quality of life of a woman, the ABC (abdominal pain, bloating and constipation) symptoms involved and the burden it places on patients.
“Irritable bowel syndrome is one of the most common gastrointestinal disorders (GI), affecting women mostly today. It is a condition which greatly impacts the quality of life. Proper information is the key to helping oneself or a loved one cope up with the condition,” said Dr Mohemed A. El-Nounou, a specialist Physician who will be speaking with the members of the Egyptian Club on 25th January.
The Egyptian Club, together with key women’s groups in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, are amongst the first organizations to have signified their support to spread awareness about IBS-C. The organizations have jointly agreed to open their doors to other women who wish to attend the lectures and show their support to the cause.
“IBS-C is an important but is also a neglected women’s health issue in the world today. We hope that by opening up our organization to other women, we would be able to encourage other groups as well as individuals in the UAE to join us. The first series of lectures are small steps which we hope will eventually become milestones to achieving a greater cause,” said Dr. Munir Hamed, spokesperson for the Egyptian Club.
