Wyeth Nutrition, makers of Progress Milk formula for toddlers, teamed up recently with UNICEF at three Dubai malls to raise funds for children affected by the Asian tsunami. H.E. Rashid Abdullah Al Nuaimi, UAE Foreign Minister, helped open the first day of the fundraiser.

Hundreds of children and their parents joined Wyeth and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for four days of fun on behalf of a good cause, held the first day at Ibn Battuta Mall, the second day at Mercato Mall, the third and fourth day at Reef Mall. Activities included bouncing castles, face painting, clowns, games, rides and Progress Milk goody bags with puzzles, balloons and savings boxes.

“Our first priority at Wyeth and Progress Milk is the healthy growth and development of children around the world. As such, we felt a special responsibility to support UNICEF by sponsoring this fundraiser and helping provide funds that this organization needs to reduce the suffering and increase the opportunities for children still affected by last winter’s terrible tsunami,” said Paul Carolin, Manager, Consumer Marketing Middle East & North Africa, Wyeth Nutrition.

The first day of the fundraiser, held at Ibn Battuta Mall, featured attendance by Al Nuaimi, German Defence Minister Rudolf Scharping as well as UNICEF officials and Progress Milk representatives.

Although nearly six months has passed since the deadly tsunami struck India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the Maldives, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Seychelles and Somalia, millions of children and adults still are suffering in its aftermath.

Money collected at the fundraisers will help UNICEF to provide a host of services, including immunization against fatal childhood diseases; clean, safe water and provision of basic sanitation; special feeding for malnourished children and pregnant women, and care for traumatized children. As well, UNICEF is looking to help rebuild communities with better schools, better health facilities and better opportunities for children.
