Yemen blockade as dangerous to civilians as war itself: NGO

The head of aid group Doctors Without Borders spoke out Thursday about the humanitarian consequences of the Saudi-led coalition's blockade against Yemen, reports AFP.

Joanne Liu told AFP that the blockade is preventing sick Yemenis from receiving necessary medical treatment such as medicine, and as a result it is "killing as (many people as) the current conflict."

Throughout Yemen disease is spreading, as hospitals are forced to shut their doors due to the ongoing conflict.

The UN and other aid agencies have been warning about the humanitarian crisis in Yemen for months. Aden has been especially hard struck by the crisis, with severe shortages of fuel, food and medicine.

On Monday the Arab coalition attempted a third ceasefire in Yemen to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid following four months of air raids which have killed more than 3,500 people.
