A massive fire destroyed a shanty neighborhood in the Yemeni capital Sanaa on Tuesday leaving four people wounded and hundreds others homeless, police said.
Police officials said the fire originated from a kerosene stove and quickly raged through tin houses of the neighborhood of Assir.
It took twelve fire engines an estimated two hours to control the blaze that was fanned by strong winds, eyewitnesses said. They said the blaze destroyed about 60 houses.
Municipal officials said authorities would shelter those dwellers left homeless by the fire.
