Dubai airport witnessed its first-ever rooftop marriage proposal on Valentine’s Day 2024, when a Russian man surprised his girlfriend with a romantic gesture.
The couple, who met online and had been dating for six months, were traveling from Moscow to Maldives via Dubai. They decided to take advantage of the airport’s rooftop pool and spa, which offers a panoramic view of the city and the runways.
The man, who did not reveal his name, had secretly arranged with the airport staff to display a giant banner on the rooftop that read “Will you marry me?” in Russian. He also hired a photographer and a violinist to capture the moment.
As the couple arrived at the rooftop, the woman was stunned to see the banner and the musician playing a romantic tune. The man then got down on one knee and presented her with a ring. She said yes and hugged him, as the airport staff and other guests cheered and applauded.
The airport’s official Twitter account shared the video of the proposal and congratulated the couple. “We are delighted to be part of this special moment and wish them a lifetime of happiness,” the tweet said.
The couple said they were grateful to the airport for making their Valentine’s Day unforgettable. They also said they plan to have their wedding in Dubai, as it is now a special place for them.
