ALBAWABA In a shocking incident that unfolded on Wednesday morning, an employee at Cairo University's Faculty of Archaeology opened fire on his colleague inside the Youth Care Building, resulting in a tragic loss of life.
Following the incident, authorities were promptly notified, and the public prosecution team arrived at the scene to conduct a thorough examination of the incident site. However, the suspect managed to flee after the shooting, initiating a manhunt.
The investigations carried out by the prosecution, as detailed by the official newspaper 'Al-Ahram,' have unveiled a distressing backdrop to this tragic event.
The victim, a 29-year-old sports specialist at Cairo University's Faculty of Archaeology, had been the target of repeated marriage proposals from the 30-year-old suspect, who had been her colleague for several years. Regrettably, each time she had firmly declined his advances.
The investigations also revealed that the suspect, who was employed as a youth care specialist, had previously set fire to the victim's car five years ago.
Subsequently, he was transferred to the Faculty of Agriculture but continued to harass the victim with threatening messages. His ongoing misconduct led to his sentencing and expulsion from the university, as reported by the newspaper.
The tragic turn of events occurred when the suspect managed to gain access to one of the offices where the victim was situated, armed with a weapon.
In a horrifying act, he discharged six gunshots at her, resulting in her immediate and tragic demise. Although she was swiftly transported to the university hospital, the victim's life could not be saved, and her body was subsequently transferred to the morgue.
In response to the incident, the Ministry of Interior issued a statement disclosing further details and circumstances surrounding the employee's killing at Cairo University's Faculty of Archaeology.
Additionally, it was revealed that the suspect, Ahmed H. (35 years old), tragically took his own life during an escape attempt in Alexandria.
