ALBAWABA - WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus declared the monkeypox virus (Mpox) a public health emergency of international concern amid increasing cases in multiple countries.

Mpox is on the rise with over 17,000 cases confirmed across Africa, and other cases were also discovered in Sweden and Pakistan. The Independent confirmed that the Mpox outbreak came as a new strain was identified and named "clade 1".

A video of Lebanese astrologer Laila Abdel Latif was widely shared in which she predicted a skin disease spreading in the world like COVID-19. However, many said that Laila's prediction of Mpox is not a new thing.

As usual, social media users whenever a new event takes place worldwide, The Simpsons series is the first to predict it. 

In 2005, the "Milhouse of Sand and Fog" episode of the famous American series was virally shared online in which Homer Simpsons was at the zoo near monkeys that catch him then he is seen at home with pox filling his body. 

In the same episode, also Bart Simpson is infected with the same skin virus. However, according to Misbar's investigation, the virus in The Simpsons series is "Chickenpox" not "Mpox".

What is the Mpox virus? 

According to WHO, Mpox is an illness caused by the monkeypox virus. It is a viral infection which can spread between people, via close contact, and occasionally from the environment to people via things and surfaces that have been touched by a person with Mpox.

Mpox symptoms:

According to doctors and studies, Mpox symptoms include a rash which may last for 2–4 weeks. This may start with, or be followed by, fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain and low energy as well as swollen glands (lymph nodes).
