Following the discovery of human remains within a few yards from Manchester United's training academy, police have opened a murder inquiry.
The Times reports that a murder probe was sparked by the discovery of the plastic-wrapped human remains in Salford's Kersal Dale woodland on Thursday afternoon. A pathologist verified that the remains were human, despite the fact that their origin is unknown. So far, no one has been taken into custody.
"The victim has not yet been identified, but we know that behind this discovery there will be a family who have lost a loved one, and we want to make sure they are supported as quickly as possible," according to The Times.
GMP's Serious Crime Division Detective Superintendent Lewis Hughes promised the neighborhood that there would be a noticeable police presence there to answer questions and offer consolation. He called on everyone who knew something to come forward and help with the inquiry.
