ALBAWABA - KFC, the American fast food restaurant chain, has landed in hot water and was accused of mocking Palestinian suffering following its last post on Facebook.
KFC tent campaign
KFC, which is the world's second-largest restaurant chain after McDonald's, posted an ad to promote its fried chicken. In the ad, KFC shared a picture displaying the logo, the hashtag " #NoTentsJustChicken," as well as an emoji of a tent and on top of it a block emoji.
It captioned the photo: "Sorry, no tents here, just finger-lickin' good chicken, just the way you like it to spice up your weekend. #NoTentsJustChicken #KFCAntigua."
Pro-Palestinian activists and advocates were widely angered by the latest KFC ad and called for a tightening boycott campaign against the fast food restaurant chain. Many accused KFC of mocking the misery of Palestinians who were forced to be displaced into tents in Rafah amid intensive Israeli attacks which killed nearly 29,000 Palestinians since Oct. 7.
An account wrote: "In case you forgot the boycott campaign, here is a post from KFC to remind you." Another added: "KFC is literally mocking displaced Palestinians in Rafah whilst they are suffering FAMINE!"

Following the Israeli war on Gaza, many pro-Palestinian activists have launched boycott campaigns against many food chains and brands including KFC, Pizza Hut, McDonald's, Starbucks and many more due to their direct or indirect support of the Israeli occupation and the war in Gaza.
The Gaza Ministry of Health reported that at least 28,985 Palestinians have been killed, mostly women and children, and 68,883 others were injured since Oct. 7.
The real reason behind the KFC tent ad
On the other hand, some people on social media revealed the truth behind the KFC tent campaign. an activist on X explained that the controversy surrounding the American chain was caused by an internal matter on the island of Antigua, and had nothing to do with Palestine and the displaced Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
The activist mentioned the story behind the "tents" that the KFC chain mentioned in its last publication, and said that there is a company called Apua on the island of Antigua that was robbed, when someone stole a tent from them, which prompted them to use the “tent” in marketing terms.
