ALBAWABA - Amid being euthanized on orders made by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, beloved social media personality 'Peanut the Squirrel' is once again the talk of the internet after testing negative for rabies, according to AP.
News of the test results swarmed social media platforms as users on Musk's X (formerly known as Twitter) demanded justice for Peanut the Squirrel and his owner Mark Longo.
This all comes in after Peanut the Squirrel and a raccoon named Fred were seized by New York authorities as they raided their caretaker's home in Pine City, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, according to owner Mark Longo.
Peanut the Squirrel tests negative for rabies, killed unnecessarily
Mark Longo said on Tuesday that the test results didn't surprise him and further criticized the government for euthanizing his beloved pet squirrel.
He said, "It’s no real big shocker to me, considering I lived with Peanut for seven-and-a-half years and Fred for five months. I’m not foaming at the mouth. Knew the test results were going to be negative".
Other than Peanut, Fred the Raccoon who was also a pet of Longo also tested negative for rabies but was euthanized by New York authorities as well.
According to the New York Post, a new timeline showcased that officials advised to euthanize both Peanut and Fred, seven days before being taken away from Longo in rural Pennsylvania on Oct. 3 who was taking care of them unofficially.

A newly revealed timeline shows state officials advised the county to euthanize the pets a full seven days before they were taken from their unofficial caretaker Mark Longo on Oct. 3.
Upon hearing the news, many internet users took to several platforms to debate the issue at hand. Here's what they had to say:
"The NYSDEC needs to be dismantled, and Kathy Hochul needs to start a full investigation into these heinous actions."
"This was an attack on an influential social media couple defying the tyranny of New York law. They were made an example of and it backfired."
"There are some horrible people in this world that just want others to be as miserable as themselves."
