ALBAWABA - A Russian general was reportedly fired after being accused of faking his success on the battleground during the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

The former general in question is Colonel General Gennady Anashkin who used to be Russia's commander fighting under Russia's 'Southern Group' in Eastern Ukraine, as reported by the Daily Mail. Conflicting claims from different media outlets about Anashkin's dismissal were reported.

According to a Russian military informant, Anashkin who was only appointed in May this year was fired over faking his success stories while fighting in Eastern Ukraine. On the other hand, the Telegram channel Rybar claimed that Anashkin was fired due to causing the death of hundreds of soldiers by sending them unprepared for battle.

Government-owned media outlets stated that Gennady Anashkin's dismissal was simply processed under "planned rotation" in the military.

Moreover, reports claim that he was sacked amid the death of a top general on Nov. 20, 2024, by British Storm Shadow missiles. The strike which was launched by Ukraine resulted in the killing of 500 North Korean soldiers and Lieutenant General Valery Solodchuk.

According to Ukraine's Defense Intelligence, Russia has reportedly placed more than 7,000 North Korean soldiers in areas close to Ukrainian territory, resulting in a huge deployment of these forces near the country's border.

By the time of writing this article, both the Russian army and the Kremlin still hadn't commented about the issue at hand.
