ALBAWABA - A controversy was sparked in the United Kingdom after an unknown person replaced the Star of David on Amy Winehouse Statue's necklace with the Palestinian flag.

The British police are conducting a wide search for a pro-Palestinian activist who placed the Palestinian flag on top of the Star of David on the Camden Market statue depicting the singer.

Amy Winehouse died in 2011 at the age of 27.

"Camden Market remains, first and foremost, a place of diversity - a global destination that welcomes everyone," Camden Market posted a statement on X (formerly Twitter) explaining what happened to the famous statue.

It added on X post: "This morning we were made aware that a member of the public had placed a sticker over the Star of David necklace on the Amy Winehouse statue in the North Yard of Camden Market. This was removed immediately, and the incident was reported to the police."

Furthermore, Sky News reported that Camden Market quickly removed the Palestinian flag sticker after it was found on top of The Star of David. It is worth noting that Amy Winehouse was Jewish but she was not religious, according to other media sources.

Pro-Palestinian protests have been marked across the UK in support of Palestinians suffering under Israeli airstrikes since Oct. 7, 2023.

The Health Ministry in Gaza announced in a statement that the death toll from Israel's offensive has risen to 29,195, with over 69,170 others also injured in the ongoing attacks.
