ALBAWABA - Ersin Tatar, President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), has strongly criticized the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus (GCASC)-produced "Famagusta" series, which will premiere online on September 20.

Tatar told an AA journalist that the series misrepresents history and promotes dark propaganda by claiming the Cyprus war started in 1974.

Tatar said, "Netflix, as a major platform, should be responsible for presenting the truth." He said, "This organization's dark propaganda is alarming. We completely oppose it as improper."

The TRNC President noted that Turkish Cypriots were forcefully removed from the state in the 1950s and that 103 villages were demolished in the 1960s, displacing thousands. He noted that Turkish villages in the area were massacred as the world watched.

"I strongly oppose this new injustice being inflicted on Turkish Cypriots through such black propaganda," Tatar said, emphasizing that the TRNC would continue its path. "Our mission remains to defend the independence and freedom of our state, with significant support from the Republic of Turkey," he said.

Tatar also advised producers to show all sides of the issue to make a more truthful and balanced series.

Tatar praised Turkish TV shows, saying, "Turkish series are popular in Turkey, Russia, and South America. I think skilled Turkish cinema producers and screenwriters may make a captivating series based on Cyprus's live history and experiences."
