ALBAWABA - The White House has sparked controversy on social media following a post on its official X account, in which it wrote "LONG LIVE THE KING" in reference to US President Donald Trump.
The White House's post comes after the US administration revealed its intention late on Wednesday to "rescind approval of New York City’s congestion pricing program," which was found to reduce traffic in Manhattan.
In response, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) immediately announced suing the Trump government in order to block its move to scrub the congestion pricing program.
Is Trump planning to turn the US into a monarchy country and become king?
Many lashed out at the idea, which was first sparked following the White House post on X which posed a picture of Donald Trump with a golden royal crown on his head.
The post was captioned: "'CONGESTION PRICING IS DEAD. Manhattan, and all of New York, is SAVED. LONG LIVE THE KING!' –President Donald J. Trump."
The post sparked a wide debate about whether Donald Trump is planning to turn the US into a monarchy country and announce himself the king.
It is worth noting that the United States' regime is democratic, where the people get to vote and elect their president every four years. In the 2024 presidential elections, Republican candidate Donald Trump won votes beating his Democratic rival Kamala Harris, the former US vice president.
A person commented: "I don’t remember us having a monarchy?". Another X user said: "I’m not comfortable with him referring to himself as 'king'. I pray this ceases."
Meanwhile, a person said: "I have seen a few already worried Trump actually wants to be the king of America. Maybe be more professional on the actual White House account in the future. "
