ALBAWABA - A US tourist was blasted on social media after CCTV footage captured him hiding behind a wall while his female companion was fighting off a thief during their trip in Colombia.
The viral footage shared on December 6 captured the terrifying incident when a knife-wielding mugger attempted to steal the woman's phone. However, in an attempt at self-defense, the woman confronted the thief while her companion hid behind the wall.
According to Newsflash, another passerby saw the terrifying incident happening and stopped his motorcycle to help the woman by hitting the thief with his helmet. Other citizens also noticed the attempted robbery and jumped in to assist.

Only after the situation de-escalated by subduing the thief, the man appeared on camera again. The video flooded social media platforms with many users criticizing the tourist for not assisting his girlfriend.
A social media user wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "Choose your companions wisely ladies."
A doctor wrote on the same platform explaining why the man didn't help his companion, "Some of my thoughts on why these individuals didn’t help the female and don’t get me wrong they should’ve! When the knife came out, the boyfriend’s nervous system hit redline and defaulted to the oldest option in the human playbook: freeze and hide."
