The IDF elite unit "Rephaim," in English "ghosts," was presented at the end of October 2019 as part of the Momentum Plan, which goes back to the IDF Chief of Staff Lieut. Gen. Aviv Kochavi. According to Israeli media, the elite unit represents a world first.

The "Rephaim" are a special unit, but could also be described as a small army of elite soldiers, which can respond particularly quickly to different military requirements.

It combines various branches of service and units that are to be fully networked with each other.
According to i24news and Jerusalem Post, the "Rephaim" includes not only infantry soldiers but also tank corps, artillery, paratroopers and special forces such as the elite reconnaissance battalions Yahalom and Gadsar, the Duvdevan commando unit, the Oketz canine unit, military intelligence, the IDF Cyber Security Unit and the air force.

The equipment includes innovations in Israeli military technology such as small drones and remote controlled armed robots, the Jerusalem Post narrated on the occasion of the unit's first exercise, which took place in the second half of July.
Israeli media report that the "Rephaim" has now been deployed to Israel's northern border for the first time.
