British street artist Banksy is funding a boat crewed by volunteers to rescue refugees in the Mediterranean.
A huge, bright pink yacht emblazoned with Banksy’s art rescued people who set off from North Africa and were found distressed in the Mediterranean Sea.
The crew on the Louise Michel, named after a French anarchist, sent out tweets on Friday night and Saturday calling for “immediate assistance” from authorities in Malta, Italy, and Germany and denounced the EU’s supposed ‘Fortress Europe’ migration policy.
Hundreds of migrants were lifted to safety from a rescue boat after it became so overcrowded that it was in danger of capsizing in the Mediterranean.
