Georges Yammine, a musician and photographer. In his new project he highlights the relevance of hands and the interaction between music and photography.
Violin and Leica cameras are the two most important instruments to which Yammine dedicates his life to in his home in Qatar. During the Covid-19 pandemic his attention became couched by plastic gloves. The artificial covering inhibits the connection between the musician and the instrument. Plastic hinders musical expression.
Yammine is fascinated by the human hand which is a transmitter of mental and emotional impulses, covering thoughts and ideas, translating them into reality, creating shape and sound.
Serving as an indispensable means of expression for artists, the hand, during the Covid pandemic veiled and dreaded as a potential medium of transmission, has now become a symbol of confinement, he explains.
So he uses his creativity to show what it might be like if plastic gloves were to set the tone even after the pandemic. In the interview for THE LEICA CAMERA BLOG, he explained what that might mean for a musician's relationship to his instruments.
