Storm Norma Covers Lebanon in White

Published January 8th, 2019 - 08:15 GMT

Snow covers the East Mediterranean.

Waves crash into the seawall of Beirut, Lebanon, during a strong storm that brought freezing temperatures and heavy rainfall to the coast and snow to the Lebanese mountains.

The storm damaged several farms in the northern districts with river levels in the area rising. The storm paralyzed sea traffic in Tripoli’s fishermen port.

The Syrian refugees’ camp in Irsal was blanketed by snow after Norma hit Lebanon. Every year, extreme weather conditions exacerbate the already super vulnerable reality of refugees. Vulnerable Lebanese and Syrian refugees are facing extreme challenges during the storm because most of the tents and shelters have been destroyed.
