The tenth African International Sports Convention officially opened Thursday, in Algiers, in the presence of the Minister of Youth and Sports, El Hadi Ould Ali.
"Sport is an essential element in the African youth development and fulfillment and I hope that this 10th edition will give a new impetus to sport activity throughout the continent," said Ould Ali in his opening speech of this event.
For his part, Diamil Faye, director of Events Sport Management Consulting (JAPPO), organizer of the CISA, in collaboration with the Algerian Olympic and Sports Committee (COA) hailed the Algerian authorities' commitment to the success of the event.
"We thank Algeria for the role it plays for the expansion of sport in Africa. The 10th CISA is an opportunity for sports stakeholders to evaluate and offer steps to be followed for the consolidation of the African sports' achievements," he said, adding that the president of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa, Lassana Plenfo could not be in Algiers "for personal reasons."
For his part, COA President, Mustapha Berraf welcomed the participants who will have "three days to broach all the issues relating to sports practice in Africa, home of many great athletes."
The Wali (Governor) of Algiers, CEO of Mobilis as well as several guests from France, United States and Italy took part in this ceremony, which was followed by an opening dinner in the honour of Algeria's guests.
