Cairo giants Ahly played down on Monday claims that they were interested in acquiring the services of Hull City's Egyptian winger Ahmed Elmohamady.

"Elmohamady is an excellent player but there are no negotiations between the club and him," Ahly's football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz told the Reds' official website.

Recent media reports said Ahly had opened talks with the 28-year-old over a possible move this summer.

"The coach is yet to define the club's needs for next season," Abdel-Hafiz added.

Former ENPPI winger Elmohamady, who started his overseas adventure in 2010 after joining Premier League side Sunderland, has 70 caps with Egypt. While he's now playing at the Championship, his international career has also taken a turn for the worse.

Elmohamady has fallen out of favor since the arrival of Egypt coach Hector Cuper in February 2015, with the latter depending on Zamalek duo Hazem Emam and Omar Gaber for the right flank.
