Although he has turned 38, the iconic midfielder still sees himself going on for at least another two years in the Qatar Stars League

Legendary midfielder Xavi is not ready to hang up his boots and take up a career as coach just yet.

The 38-year-old is synonymous as one of the maestros of Barcelona’s tiki-taka style of football during his career but departed Camp Nou in 2015 for Al-Sadd, where he continues to ply his trade.

Xavi, meanwhile, still has two years left on his playing contract at the Qatar Stars League side and can’t see himself quitting before that is up.

“I feel good and I'm finding it hard to stop professional football anyway,” he told TV3 (per AS). “I’m having a good time. I get the ball and I enjoy it. My plan is to keep doing that until my body gives up.”

He is, however, planning for the future and has started to undertake his coaching badges.

“I’m going step by step,” he said. “The coaching course has gone well and has put my ideas in order, which I now see clearly. But I have to see myself on a bench, with my staff, see what I can give to a team. Being a coach is not easy.”

After 24 years at Camp Nou, he continues to keep a close eye on events in the Catalan city and feels Brazilian midfielder Arthur Melo, who Barcelona are hoping to bring in this summer rather than next January, can make an impact.

“I’ve not see him play a whole match,” he admitted. “I’ve seen clips, but he’s a player who can fit in at Barcelona.

“But another thing is mentality, the ability to adapt to the country, La Liga and a club as big as Barca.”
