Argentinian striker Matias Suarez, who plays for the Belgian football club, Anderlecht, has announced he will leave Belgium at the end of the season because of terrorist attacks in Brussels.
Anderlecht is a Belgian top football division Jupiler Pro League team.
Speaking about Tuesday’s attacks in Brussels that left dozens of people dead, Suarez told the Spanish press Wednesday: "I heard the incidents on the radio while driving to training. The training was cancelled. I called my daughter if she is in safe or not. It was very scary for me and my family".
He said people in Brussels were now afraid of going out. "I love Belgium and Belgian people, however, I talked to my spouse and agent about my leave from the country at the end of the season and I decided to leave Belgium in June for my family's security," the 27-year-old player said.
Suarez scored six goals in 32 appearances for Anderlecht this season.
He has been playing in Belgium for eight years and his contract at Anderlecht will end in the summer of 2017.
Tuesday’s Brussels bombings at Zaventem airport and Maelbeek metro station killed at least 31 people, federal prosecutor Frederic Van Leeuw said Wednesday.
Daesh claimed responsibility for the attack through a news agency linked to the group.
The bombings came four days after the arrest of Paris attacks suspect Salah Abdeslam and a week after a police shootout in the Brussels district of Forest where a suspected Daesh member was shot dead.
